Following the decision to file a police brutality lawsuit against Pennsylvania state authorities in July, a 33-year-old man has been released from jail after serving more than two-and-a-half years behind bars. The man who submitted the complaint said that law enforcement officials subjected him to a brutal beating before he was taken into custody for a misdemeanor offense.
According to reports, the 33-year-old was punched over and over again, shocked with a stun gun six times and verbally abused once police caught up with him at the conclusion of a 15-mile low-speed chase through Bradford County.
The assault was caught on camera thanks to dashboard surveillance footage. Although it isn't clear which vehicle the tape was being recorded in, it is clear that officials yanked the 33-year-old out of his car, hog-tied him and began punching him on the way to the station.
After the video was released to the public, advocates around the world began calling for the victim's release, who was jailed for, among other things, damage to attended vehicle and resisting arrest.
''It is our understanding that, to date, no local, state, or federal law enforcement agency has chosen to pursue criminal charges against the officers, however, Mr. Leone has an ongoing federal lawsuit against those involved in the incident," said a U.S. Representative spokeswoman in a statement.
The victim in the incident is currently on parole.
